Italy Tips

Accommodation:

  • Rome: Hotel Saturnia. It is a basic hotel with a small room, but the location was great and the people at the reception extremely helpful. It is walking distance from the Coliseum, and also from the train station. Good area. Address: Via Ruinaglia 5, Rome Italy. Phone: +39 06 484609
  • Capri: Monte Solaro. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this boutique hotel. An incredible value. Clean, exquisite, good size rooms with amazing views. The hotel is located in a high point in Anacapri (probably the highest), so the views from it are just impossible to beat. Don’t miss the sunset from the pool. His owner Costanzo Potecorro is more than just the owner of the place, he will be your host. Whatever you need, he will hook you up (boat, restaurant reservation, shopping). The breakfast is included and again, it is not just any breakfast… fresh made croissants, cappuccino, juices, fruits, and so much more, you may not be hungry for lunch. Also follow his advice in terms how to see the famous Blue Grotto (go very early by bus to the blue grotto so you avoid the long wait when you take the boat around the island). This boutique hotel is a gem in Anacapri. Many people stay in Sorrento because they think they cannot afford to stay in Capri. Well this hotel is an excellent affordable option. Address: Via Monte Solaro, 30. 80071. Anacapri. Email: montesolaro@capri.it Website: www.montesolarocapri.com Telf. +39 0818382124
  • Naples: Hotel Ideal. A few steps from the train station. The room was big and clean. Has free wifi. Great deal for anyone passing by Naples. I will definitely stay there again. Plus I loved the restaurant next door. Address: Piazza Garibaldi 99. Central Station Naples, 80142. Phone: +39081269237
  • Florence: Hotel Ferretti. It was highly recommended online and is recommended in travel guides. It certainly has a great location. The rooms are small but decent and clean. The breakfast? For 5 euros you can get something so much better in a near by café. But about the hotel…I don’t know if we caught the owners of a bad day, but they don’t seem to care about the guests. Especially the wife was quite rude. Probably just those kind of places that once get good ranking, they take their guests from granted. Ironically at night, the guide at the reception was super nice. I probably would stay somewhere else where I actually feel welcome upon arrival. Address: Via Delle Belle Donne 17, Florence, FI, 50123. Telf: +39 55 2381328
  • Venice: Hilton Molino Stucky. This is a luxury hotel and it was definitely a treat. The views were amazing, the room was just gorgeous, great breakfast, and it has free transportation (boat) to the main attractions. I would still get a bus pass because sometimes the free Hilton boat gets full. Address: Giudecca 810, Venice, 30133, Italy +39-041-272 331
  • Rome (near the airport): Residence La Maison Jolie. Decent hotel to stay the night if you have an early flight next day. Address: Via Lelio Silva 49. Fiumicino, 00050, Italy

Booking trains: I did all the booking of my train trips online and got my e-tickets to print in advance. This helps to save time while traveling. http://www.raileurope.com

Restaurants:

It is hard to have bad food in Italy. All places we went to were awesome, but these three stood out.

In Rome…

Ristorante Babette Café. It is a high-end restaurant. You definitely need to book, but the food wont disappoint. It was AMAZING. Exquisitely decorated. It was worth every euro. Strongly recommended. Address: Via Margutta, 1/D, 00187 Roma, Italy. Phone: +39 06 321 1559. Website: www.babetteristorante.it

Trattoria Grotta Amatriciana. Relax environment, affordable. It is like being in someone’s home having dinner. Very cozy atmosphere. Address: Via Principe Amedeo, 1c- 00185. Roma. Phone: 064882853. Email: info@grottamatriciana.it

In Naples…

Da Ettore Ristorante, Bar and Pizzeria. The BEST pizza I have ever tried. The service was awesome. I loved this place. I never imagined that a small restaurant near the train station will serve such a great tasty food, but what a surprise during a rush stop in Naples. If you visit Naples, do not miss this place. Address: Piazza Garibaldi, 95/98- Napoli. Tel. 081200380. Website: www.ristoranteettore.it Email: info@ristoranteettore.it

Shopping in Capri: For original handmade sandals, exquisite sweets, high quality clothing, souvenirs and more, visit Il Sandalo Caprese. Address: Via Capodimonte, 15 Anacapri. Tel. 0818373928 Website: www.capristore.it Email: info@capristore.it
