Tips Myanmar

Is it safe to travel to Myanmar? Absolutely! The country has opened up to tourism in recent years, and now you can travel independently. I never felt threatened, followed, or in danger. One thing is what you hear in the news, and another what is the day to day in Myanmar, especially for a foreigner.

Visa: Depends on the nationality. But in 2011, the Government of Myanmar launched an eVisa, with which you can apply online and it is available for citizens of many countries. Here it is the link to visit and check eligibility: http://evisa.moip.gov.mm

Airlines: Thai Airways, Air China, Asiana Airlines, Vietnam airlines, Malaysia Airlines are some of the airlines that fly to Yangon.

Internal flights: There are several domestic airlines including Air Bagan and Air KBZ. You can make a reservation online through this website: https://www.visitmm.com

They can be reached at 1-855-95 VISIT (1-855-958-4748) or 1-510-972-8762 in the US, (+95-9) 7325-6338 or (+95-9) 420-166-252 in Myanmar. VisitMM Customer Service is available from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM Myanmar Standard Time (MST) or 9:30 PM to 7:00 AM Eastern Standard Time (EST) from Monday to Saturday.

Accommodation:

Hotal Yangon: City Star Hotel was very good located. Basic but good.Address: No.169/171, Mahabandoola Garden Street, Kyauktada Township (Near Yangon City Hall) Downtown Yangon Yangon, Myanmar. Phone: 951-370922, 370920. Email: citystarhotel@myanmar.com.mm or citystar.hotel.ygn@gmail.com Website: www.citystarhotel.com

Hotel Bagan: Bagan Empress Hotel is an awesome boutique hotel in New Bagan. His owner was super helpful and welcoming. Whatever you need, he will take it care for you. The small hotel is beautiful, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It has wifi, and you can rent a bike right at the reception. Address: No.107, Yuzana Street, Anawrahta Ward, Khan Latt Qtr New Bagan Bagan, Myanmar. Bagan Empress Hotel in New Bagan. For Reservation contact: 959 5040 436, 959 73004950, 959 2500 21540. Email: baganempresshotel@gmail.com Website: www.baganempresshotel.com

Hotel Inle Lake: I stayed at Nanda Wunn Hotel 80. I felt it was overpriced and rooms run down, but it has a good location. I think there must be better options for the price I paid. The wifi NEVER worked. Address: Yone Gyi Road, Nanda wunn Quarter, Nyaung Shwe Township, Shan State.

Guide in Bagan:  I strongly recommend getting a guide in Bagan so you can get the most of your experience by exploring the place with a local, who knows about the history. At the tourist office, I was set up with a female guide called Zar Zar. She was amazing! If you want to contact her, you can reach her at her email: firstladysuehninsee91@gmail.com Phone: 00959402773777

Shopping in Bagan: I am not very into souvenirs, but it is hard to control temptation to buy stuff in Myanmar! Although you can buy from street vendors, I found better and cheaper souvenirs at this cute store in New Bagan called “Royal Handicrafts and Souvenirs” located at E 107 Main Rd.
