I went to Tanzania just to climb Kilimanjaro. There are six different routes to reach Kibo’s peak. I chose the Lemosho route because it was supposed to be the less used and the most scenic after the Arrow Glacier. I would strongly recommend adding a day to this trek (especially the day prior the summit) so your body has more time to recover and acclimatize before attempting Uhuru Peak. Besides Kilimanjaro, Tanzania has a lot to offer. You can add to your Tanzanian trip a 3-day safari or some days of relaxation in Zanzibar.

DAY 1: Forest camp – Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Drive from Moshi to the Londorossi Park Gate located on the western side of Kilimanjaro. About 3-4 hours hike through the rain forest to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) camp at or 8,695 ft.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa camp – Shira one Camp.
Climb cross the remaining rain forest towards the giant moorland zone to Shira One Camp located at one of the highest plateaus on earth at 11,420 ft.

Day 3: Shira one camp – Shira two Camp.
Three hours trek toward Kibo’s glaciered peak to Shira 2 camp at 12,600 ft. Amazing views of Mt. Meru, Shira plateau and Kibo peak.

Day 4: Barranco Camp via Lava Tower camp.
About a 7 hour superb hike, passing the Lava Tower at 15,220 feet, around the southern flank of Kibo, and descend to Barranco campsite at 13,070 feet in the foot of Kibo Peak

Day 5: Barranco Camp– Barafu camp.
STIFF climb starts the day to Barafu camp at 15,200 feet. Few hours rest before the Summit attempt in the midnight. You could add –and I strongly recommend you do- a day of rest and acclimatization either at Barafu camp or at the Karanga Camp, located between Barranco and Barafu

Day 6: Summit attempt
Start Summit attempt at ooh30 midnight to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. Descend all the way to Millennium or Mweka Camp for the last night in Kilimanjaro.

Day 7: Mweka gate
Downhill Hike to Mweka gate, and drive back to hotel.
